Cuxhaven sea rescue saves five people after boat accident

Five people, including three children, were rescued after their 13-meter motorboat struck a stone groyne near the Elbe estuary at Cuxhaven. The vessel suffered an engine failure before the collision, causing it to take on water.

As the boat began to tilt and threatened to sink, the passengers were forced to abandon the vessel. Rescuers from the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service (DGzRS) station in Cuxhaven arrived to find the situation life-threatening, as waves were already washing over the gunwales. Using a daughter boat, the rescuers safely transported all five individuals to land. While the passengers were in shock, no injuries were reported.

The Water Police are currently investigating the cause of the accident.
