CVM officials meet with CFTC and SEC in Washington to discuss tokenization

Representatives from the Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM) conducted a series of high-level meetings in Washington, D.C., to discuss financial innovation and asset tokenization.

On Monday, CVM President Otto Lobo and Superintendent José Alexandre Vasco met with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). Mel Gunewardena, Director of the CFTC International Affairs Office, received the delegation to discuss the role of regulators in the tokenization market and to commit to closer technical cooperation on innovative financial markets.

Prior to the CFTC meeting, the CVM delegation met with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Friday. The discussions with the SEC, which included participation from the agency’s cryptocurrency task force, focused on regulatory agendas, technological modernization, and the tokenization of capital markets. The CVM's mission in the United States, which began on August 11, also included engagements with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and various academic and corporate entities.
