CXL technology shows growth potential at 2026 FMS Conference

Developments in Compute Express Link (CXL) technology were a primary focus at the 2026 FMS Conference. CXL, a switch heterogeneous memory and accelerator network, allows for increased local memory and the creation of storage pools containing DRAM and various processor accelerators. Projections suggest significant revenue growth for CXL from 2027 through 2031.

SK hynix showcased several CXL products, including accelerators, memory expansion modules, and the MARS memory-centric AI rack system. Notably, Meta reported using CXL memory pooling to repurpose older DDR4 DRAM, extending its utility in data center operations and reducing the need for immediate DDR5 purchases.

Additionally, Kioxia presented new NAND flash solutions, including BiCS10 with 332 layers and XL-Flash. XL-Flash is a high-performance, low-latency flash memory designed to bridge the performance gap between volatile DRAM and standard flash memory.
