YMTC and CXMT expand global memory market presence

Chinese memory manufacturers Yangtze Memory Technologies (YMTC) and ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) are rapidly expanding their global presence amid a worldwide semiconductor shortage. YMTC has emerged as a major player in the NAND flash market, capturing a 14% global market share in the second quarter of 2026, positioning itself as the third-largest producer behind Samsung and SK Hynix. The company aims to become the world's leading NAND producer by the end of 2027.

CXMT is also scaling operations, though it faces challenges including lower production yields compared to industry leaders and US export restrictions on manufacturing equipment. Despite these hurdles, CXMT is working to meet rising demand, with its utilization rate projected to reach 95.73% in 2025. While both companies are focused on meeting domestic Chinese demand and increasing self-sufficiency, they are also seeking to establish themselves as high-quality suppliers for Western markets.

Reports indicate that while CXMT and YMTC do not currently intend to supply Apple on a large scale, they are pursuing supplier certification from the tech giant to serve as a quality endorsement for other international clients. Meanwhile, the global memory market is experiencing significant price volatility, with rising demand from AI data centers driving up costs for DRAM and NAND components.
