CXMT begins mass production of G5 DRAM technology

ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT), China's largest DRAM manufacturer, has commenced mass production of its fifth-generation G5 technology platform. This new process utilizes Self-Aligned Quadruple Patterning (SAQP) to achieve an active area half-pitch of 11.95 nm, placing the company in competition with advanced nodes produced by Samsung, SK hynix, and Micron.

The G5 platform reportedly increases the number of functional dies per wafer by at least 50% compared to the previous generation, which could lead to lower production costs and higher efficiency. CXMT has introduced 24 Gb LPDDR5X memory chips designed for smartphones and portable electronics. These chips are already being integrated into high-end Chinese mobile devices, such as the Nubia NaviX Ultra.

Simultaneously, the Chinese semiconductor landscape is shifting as Yangtze Memory Technologies Corp. (YMTC) prepares to enter the DRAM market, with experimental production of LPDDR5 chips targeted for late 2026. While CXMT has focused on DRAM, it is also expanding into NAND flash memory research. This expansion aims to provide a more resilient supply chain for domestic and international electronics manufacturers.
