CXMT begins mass production of fifth-generation DRAM platform
ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) has announced the commencement of mass production for its fifth-generation DRAM technology platform. Unveiled at the World Manufacturing Convention in Hefei, the new platform utilizes quadruple patterning to achieve a critical feature spacing of 11.95 nanometers. This advancement allows for higher memory density and improved manufacturing economics, with CXMT reporting that the number of potential dies per wafer has increased by at least 50% compared to its fourth-generation platform.
As part of this launch, CXMT introduced two 24Gb LPDDR5X products specifically designed for smartphones and portable electronics. These new chips offer a 50% increase in data capacity per unit over previous 16Gb designs. CXMT vice president Luo Xiaodong stated that the company’s process capability is now on par with the industry’s most advanced mass-produced nodes.
Beyond DRAM, CXMT is reportedly preparing to expand into the NAND flash market. The company plans to establish a research, development, and experimental production line for 3D-NAND at a new facility near Beijing. This move would position CXMT as a direct competitor in the NAND sector against established global leaders such as Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron, as well as domestic rival YMTC.
