CXMT expands into NAND flash market to challenge global chipmakers

ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT), a leading Chinese DRAM manufacturer, is expanding into the NAND flash memory market. The company plans to establish a dedicated research and development production line at its new facility in Beijing and has already founded a research institute in the capital to focus on NAND development.

This strategic move positions CXMT to compete directly with domestic rival Yangtze Memory Technologies (YMTC) and global leaders such as Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and Micron Technology. The expansion comes amid a global memory shortage driven by high demand for artificial intelligence servers, a trend industry experts expect to persist through at least 2027.

CXMT has reportedly begun discussions with potential customers, including a startup interested in using NAND chips for AI systems and supercomputers. Separately, CXMT announced that its fifth-generation technology platform has entered mass production. This new platform utilizes quadruple patterning to achieve a feature spacing of 11.95 nanometres, allowing for more powerful and energy-efficient DRAM chips, including two new 24-gigabit LPDDR5X products for portable electronics.
