CXMT forecasts profit turnaround as semiconductor competition intensifies
China's ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) has announced a significant financial turnaround, forecasting a net profit of up to 132.5 billion RMB for the first nine months of 2026. This recovery is attributed to surging global demand for AI computing power, which has driven up DRAM prices. Despite the positive outlook, CXMT's stock price recently fell by over 6% as investors expressed caution regarding long-term competitive pressures and the company's strategic position in the global market. CXMT's DRAM revenue market share reportedly grew to 10% in the third quarter of 2026.
In the broader semiconductor landscape, CXMT is advancing its technology by planning to introduce DDR5 RDIMM modules using 4F-squared cell architecture by the end of 2026. While this aims to increase memory density, industry experts note that established leaders like Samsung and SK hynix maintain an edge in manufacturing efficiency.
Separately, Samsung Electronics is adjusting its manufacturing strategy for NVIDIA's next-generation custom high-bandwidth memory (NVHBM). To meet technical requirements and ensure high yields, Samsung will utilize TSMC's 3nm process for the production of the HBM base die, while continuing to produce the core die using its own 6th generation DRAM processes.
