CyanLines celebrates first anniversary of Greater Manchester nature connectivity project

The CyanLines project has reached its first anniversary, marking one year of efforts to transform Greater Manchester’s green and blue spaces. The initiative aims to create a continuous 10-mile route for walking, wheeling, and cycling that connects waterways and parks across Salford, Manchester, and Trafford.

Natural England and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority are working to treat nature as essential infrastructure. Proponents argue that integrating nature into urban development provides critical benefits, including cleaner air, reduced flood risks, carbon storage, and improved mental and physical health. It is estimated that access to green spaces could save the NHS £2.1 billion annually by promoting healthier lifestyles.

A celebration held at Aviva Studios in Manchester featured speakers including Tony Juniper, chair of Natural England, and CyanLines co-founder Pete Swift, highlighting the project's goal of making nature more accessible to residents through improved connectivity.
