European companies face rising cyber risks and regulatory pressures

European businesses are navigating an increasingly complex cybersecurity landscape characterized by sophisticated threats and stringent new regulations. The implementation of the EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) has introduced mandatory reporting requirements for manufacturers, who must now report actively exploited vulnerabilities and serious security incidents through the ENISA Single Reporting Platform.

Simultaneously, the NIS-2 directive is driving a shift in corporate responsibility. In Germany, a survey revealed a significant gap between perceived and actual compliance, with only 16 percent of companies considering themselves fully compliant despite high levels of executive confidence. Experts emphasize that effective defense requires moving beyond traditional firewalls toward comprehensive risk management, addressing issues like identity access management, outdated software, and misconfigured systems.

Technological advancements are also altering the threat profile. The use of generative AI is enhancing the quality of phishing and social engineering attacks, while the rise of Cybercrime-as-a-Service has created a globalized division of labor among attackers. To counter these evolving risks, organizations are being urged to adopt continuous monitoring, robust cyber resilience strategies, and proactive risk assessments to ensure long-term operational stability and insurability.
