Cyberattack disrupts French national education services

A major cyberattack targeting the French national education system continues to disrupt administrative services ahead of the upcoming school year. The attack, which began in late July, has forced the suspension of internal applications, messaging systems, and websites to secure data and analyze the breach.

In the Toulouse academy, Rector Karim Benmiloud stated that priority is being given to securing teacher salaries, student assignments, higher education grants, and exam retakes. Due to the outage, many administrative tasks, such as teacher and student placements, must now be performed manually.

In the Nantes academy, the disruption has been described as particularly severe. Members of the La France Insoumise (LFI) political group have sent a formal letter to the Ministry and regional Rectors, demanding transparency regarding the impact on school organization and the protection of personal data for students, teachers, and families. Unions have expressed concerns over the potential for chaos in schools and the ability to process payroll for September.
