Cyberattacks target X users and Revolut customers

Multiple cyberattacks have targeted users in Slovenia, affecting both social media accounts and financial services.

On the social media platform X, several users, including former minister and economist Matej Lahovnik, fell victim to hacking. Unauthorized individuals gained access to these accounts to post fraudulent cryptocurrency investment schemes promising high returns. Lahovnik reported the incident to the police after hackers changed his password, preventing him from removing the deceptive posts. Other users, including journalist Petra Janša, were also reportedly targeted.

Separately, the financial institution Revolut confirmed a data breach following fraudulent requests sent from a legitimate government email domain. The breach resulted in the exposure of sensitive customer information, including contact details, addresses, phone numbers, and identification documents. Hackers have reportedly leaked the personal data of high-profile individuals, such as tennis player Alexander Shevchenko and Gamdom CEO Felix Romer, and are demanding a ransom of 10,000 bitcoin to prevent further disclosures.
