Authorities in Croatia and Germany issue warnings against rising fraud and phishing scams
Authorities in Croatia and Germany are issuing warnings regarding various fraudulent schemes targeting citizens.
In Croatia, the Karlovac Police Administration has reported an increase in telephone scams targeting elderly citizens. Fraudsters pose as medical professionals, claiming a relative has been injured and requires urgent payment for treatment. Police advise citizens to never provide money or jewelry via phone and to verify all claims with family members before taking action.
In Germany, consumer groups are warning of potential phishing attempts linked to an official survey by the Federal Motor Transport Authority (Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt). While the KBA is conducting a legitimate study involving 200,000 drivers to collect mileage data for infrastructure planning, criminals may use the official logos and appearance to distribute fake letters. Experts advise against scanning QR codes or clicking links in suspicious mail and note that the official KBA survey will never request bank details, credit card numbers, or passwords.
