Montenegro Police warn of phishing emails impersonating officials

The Police Administration of Montenegro has issued repeated warnings regarding a sophisticated phishing scam targeting citizens and media outlets. Fraudulent emails are being sent using the name and function of Police Administration Director Lazar Šćepanović, as well as claiming to originate from a non-existent Center for Coordination of Combatting Cybercrime.

The scam involves a malicious PDF attachment featuring forged headers from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Police Administration (Podgorica), alongside the Europol logo. The document falsely claims that legal proceedings are being initiated against the recipient due to alleged involvement in crimes related to child pornography, citing Article 211 of the Criminal Code of Montenegro.

Recipients are pressured to provide explanations via a fake email address to avoid legal action. Authorities advise all individuals and legal entities to remain vigilant, not to open attachments, not to click on links, and to immediately delete such messages and block the sender.
