Cybercrime Center warns of cybergrooming risks for minors

Experts from the Cybercrime Center (CCZ) Baden-Württemberg at the Karlsruhe Public Prosecutor's Office are warning against cybergrooming, the targeted grooming of minors for sexual contact via gaming platforms and chat services.

Warning signs include strangers sending excessive compliments, pressuring minors to move to private or secret chats, or offering rewards such as vouchers. Further red flags include requests for photos or live camera contact, especially if the individual claims their camera is broken.

Authorities advise minors to seek help from a trusted adult immediately and to avoid attempting to investigate the person themselves or acting as a decoy. Parents are urged to contact the police to assist in identifying perpetrators. Experts also warn against forwarding or sharing suspicious content, as improper handling of evidence could lead to legal complications.
