Cybercrime rates surge in Panama and Pontevedra
Cybercrime is seeing a significant rise in both Panama and Pontevedra, Spain. In Panama, reports of computer fraud surged by 338%, with complaints rising from 52 to 228 in a specific period. While traditional scams still account for 92% of economic crimes, the modification or manipulation of computer programs saw a fourfold increase. The province of Panama recorded the highest volume of complaints, representing 57% of the national total.
In Pontevedra, Spain, cybercrimes have surpassed conventional robberies as the city's most frequent crime. Data from the first half of 2026 shows that 28% of the 1,650 reported crimes were related to cybercrime, specifically computer scams. This marks a shift from previous years when robberies were the dominant offense. Currently, the city averages 78 cybercrimes per month, exceeding the rate of conventional robberies.
