Cybercriminals use domain spoofing to target brands

Cybercriminals are increasingly using domain spoofing to target legitimate companies by registering domains similar to official ones. These fraudulent domains are used to create fake websites that deceive users, posing a significant threat to brand trust and customer relationships.

According to the latest report from the Anti-Phishing Working Group (APWG), more than one million phishing attacks were recorded globally during the second quarter of 2026. This represents a 10.1 percent increase compared to the first quarter of the year. The report identified 941 different brands targeted during this period.

To combat these threats, experts recommend that organizations adopt proactive digital identity protection. This approach involves moving beyond securing internal corporate websites to monitoring and defending the broader digital presence, specifically focusing on preventing the fraudulent use of domain names.
