Cyberleek halts GTA 6 leaks after cryptocurrency target fails
The anonymous leaker known as Cyberleek has announced a temporary halt to Grand Theft Auto VI leaks after failing to reach a $30 million market capitalization target for an associated cryptocurrency. The leaker had previously threatened to release a full 200 GB playable build of the game if the token reached the specified milestone.
In a statement titled ‘The End of the Road’, Cyberleek claimed the decision was made to avoid the risks of uploading massive amounts of data without the expected funding. The leaker also stated they would not release the game's ending to avoid ruining the experience for players, though they maintained a ‘dead man’s switch’ that could automatically release story spoilers if the group is targeted by Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive.
While the leaker claims to possess a complete build, these assertions remain unverified. The cryptocurrency associated with the campaign saw a significant crash, falling from a peak of approximately $7.8 million to around $1.2 million.
Separately, Rockstar Games has released a launch trailer for GTA VI, highlighting protagonists Lucia and Jason in Vice City. Meanwhile, cybersecurity reports indicate a rise in fraudulent websites and phishing attempts using the GTA VI brand to steal user data and funds.
