Cyberpunk 2077 director reflects on game's rocky launch

Paweł Sasko, a director at CD Projekt Red, has reflected on the legacy of Cyberpunk 2077, noting that the success of the Phantom Liberty expansion does not erase the disastrous technical launch of the base game in 2020.

While the game has undergone a significant redemption arc through major updates and the acclaimed expansion, Sasko emphasized that the difficulties faced by the team and the performance issues on older consoles remain a permanent part of the title's history. He described the post-launch recovery process as a massive learning experience for the studio regarding technical quality and game direction.

Looking forward, CD Projekt Red is already working on a sequel codenamed Project Orion at its Boston studio, which is expected to target next-generation hardware.
