Cyberpunk 2077 hits 40 million sales as mods revitalize gameplay

CD Projekt Red announced that Cyberpunk 2077 has surpassed 40 million copies sold worldwide, counting both the standard and Ultimate editions. The milestone, reached in July 2026, follows an increase of more than 5 million copies since November 2025 when the game hit 35 million sales.

The title, launched in 2020 amid a problematic release with numerous bugs and a temporary removal from the PlayStation Store, has since been patched and improved. Meanwhile, the PC community has created extensive modifications that enhance quality of life, immersion, combat dynamics, and post‑game content. Notable mods include inventory organization tools, immersive first‑person view adjustments, reinforcement systems that summon enemy reinforcements, a New Game+ feature, and the Neuralware‑Chipware expansion adding new cybernetic abilities. Large mod packs such as “City of Dreams” bundle over a thousand mods into a single installation, further extending the game's longevity.
