CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077 reaches 40 million copies sold

CD Projekt Red announced that its flagship role‑playing game Cyberpunk 2077 has sold more than 40 million copies worldwide, surpassing the 35 million mark reported just seven months earlier. The milestone was highlighted by co‑CEO Michał Nowakowski, who said the figure demonstrates the game’s lasting strength and the studio’s ability to rebuild trust after its troubled 2020 launch. The sales surge is attributed to ongoing updates, the well‑received Phantom Liberty expansion, price reductions during Steam’s Summer Sale and the release of the title on additional platforms such as Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Apple‑Silicon Macs and PC. Concurrent Steam player counts have also topped 100 000, reflecting renewed player engagement. CD Projekt Red said the achievement provides a strong foundation for future franchise projects, including a sequel set in the Cyberpunk universe, the upcoming Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 anime season, and other multimedia expansions. The company views the 40 million‑copy milestone as a key indicator of the game’s long‑term commercial viability and its importance to the studio’s broader strategic plans.
