ZuckOff app detects smart glasses to protect privacy
Polish developer Pawel Szydlowski has created ZuckOff, a mobile application designed to detect the presence of smart glasses equipped with cameras in a user's vicinity. The app works by identifying specific Bluetooth signals and manufacturer identifiers associated with devices such as Ray-Ban Meta, Oakley Meta, and Snap Spectacles.
Developed in response to growing privacy concerns regarding unsolicited filming, ZuckOff provides users with a way to know if smart glasses are nearby. While the app can estimate the distance to the device, it does not explicitly confirm whether the wearer is actively recording video or audio at that moment. Since its release on the App Store in August, the application has reportedly reached over 5,000 users.
