Cybersecurity and digital tools for SMEs and local businesses

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and local businesses face increasing digital threats as they adopt new technologies to compete in global markets. During a debate organized by Crónica Vasca and BBVA, experts highlighted that cybercriminals are increasingly using artificial intelligence to refine scams, such as supplier impersonation, fraudulent bank account copies, and fake transfers.

Experts noted a distinction between traditional cyberattacks targeting organizations and cyber-scams targeting individuals, noting that SMEs often sit at the intersection of both risks. Strengthening cybersecurity culture is now considered essential for business continuity and reputation.

In a separate context regarding digital promotion, technology is being used to boost local economies and tourism. Tools such as artificial intelligence for personalized customer experiences and local SEO for digital visibility are becoming necessary for restaurants, accommodations, and public administrations to promote local heritage and services.
