Cybersecurity awareness and legal frameworks highlighted in Nigeria and India

In Abuja, PalmPay supported the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) 2026 Cybersecurity Awareness Walk. The event, themed “Towards a Resilient Cyberspace,” aimed to increase public awareness of cyber threats and promote safer online practices.

Chika Nwosu, Managing Director of PalmPay Nigeria, emphasized that technology must be paired with proactive customer education to combat sophisticated threats like phishing and social engineering. The company continues to run campaigns to teach users how to protect sensitive information such as PINs and OTPs.

In India, the Information Technology Act of 2000 serves as the primary legal framework for addressing digital crimes. The Act provides legal recognition for electronic records and transactions while establishing provisions for offenses including identity theft, hacking, and cyberterrorism. Legal experts note that investigators must carefully apply specific sections of the Act to address evolving threats like AI-enabled deception and financial fraud.
