Cybersecurity costs rise as certificate failures and data breaches impact enterprises
Cybersecurity incidents are imposing significant financial burdens on organizations globally. A report from DigiCert, based on a survey by Propeller Insights, indicates that nearly 25% of surveyed IT and cybersecurity decision-makers in the US, UK, and Australia reported that their most significant certificate-related incident cost more than $250,000. Over one-third of these organizations experienced service outages due to expired certificates, with many facing downtime exceeding 25 hours.
Separately, experts highlight that the average cost of a data breach has reached approximately $5 million per incident. The financial impact increases by roughly $1,100 for every hour an intruder remains undetected. Emerging technological threats, including a 1,500% surge in deepfakes, the rise of unmonitored “Shadow AI,” and the potential for quantum computing to compromise conventional encryption, are driving the need for more resilient, quantum-safe architectures and automated lifecycle management.
