Cybersecurity experts warn against predictable PIN combinations
Security experts warn that many users are at risk of financial loss and data theft due to the use of highly predictable PIN codes for bank cards and mobile devices. While a four-digit PIN offers 10,000 possible combinations, human tendency toward simplicity makes certain sequences extremely vulnerable.
Analysis by security expert Nick Berry, which examined millions of compromised four-digit passwords, revealed that the combination ‘1234’ was the most common, appearing in over ten percent of cases. Other highly insecure patterns include ‘0000’, ‘1111’, ‘1212’, ‘4321’, and repetitive sequences such as ‘5656’ or ‘7878’. Experts advise users to avoid these predictable patterns and simple geometric shapes on numeric keypads to ensure better protection for mobile banking and personal data.
