Cybersecurity experts warn of privacy risks from unsecured security cameras
Experts have raised alarms regarding cybersecurity vulnerabilities in home security cameras, noting that improper configurations can leave private footage accessible to unauthorized individuals. During a live demonstration, IT expert Edmond Liçaj showed how a camera located in a private residential area could be accessed remotely because it remained on its default settings without a PIN or secure password.
Academic Nora Malaj highlighted the social and psychological implications of these privacy breaches, particularly the risk posed to children. She noted that the circulation of unauthorized footage can cause significant social distress and emphasized the state's obligation to protect citizens' fundamental rights and mental health. Malaj also warned of the dangers of camouflaged devices and the potential for malicious software to be distributed through such content.
