Cybersecurity experts warn of rising calendar-based phishing attacks

Cybersecurity experts are warning of a significant rise in phishing attacks delivered through digital work calendars. Data from email security firm Sublime indicates that calendar-led attacks surged more than tenfold in August compared to July, while Microsoft reported that such attacks nearly quadrupled in June from May.

Attackers use fraudulent meeting invitations to lure victims to phishing sites or deploy social engineering tactics. Cybersecurity professionals note that artificial intelligence is making these schemes more convincing and warn that AI agents could potentially accept fraudulent invitations on behalf of workers, providing attackers with new opportunities to bypass traditional security measures.
