Cybersecurity firms warn of expanding attack surface and IoT blind spots

Industry experts say that the biggest challenge in cybersecurity is no longer merely seeing the attack surface but measuring whether existing controls actually work. Continuous Threat Exposure Management (CTEM) is gaining traction as organisations shift from static visibility to real‑time validation, especially as shadow IT, cloud sprawl and AI‑driven attacks create blind spots.

At the same time, the Internet of Things is becoming a critical blind spot for managed service providers. Attackers use AI tools to identify unmanaged IoT devices, then move laterally into corporate networks, often using compromised cameras or HVAC systems as entry points. Experts recommend zero‑trust micro‑segmentation, network isolation, deep‑packet inspection and behavioral whitelisting to mitigate these risks and move beyond perimeter‑only defenses.
