Cybersecurity initiatives expand at University of Montana and MSUM
The University of Montana is launching a student-operated Security Operations Center through CyberMontana. Housed within the Cybersecurity Policy and Training Academy and powered by Blackfoot Communications, the center will provide hands-on experience for students in monitoring networks and analyzing cyber threats. The program, funded by the state legislature, aims to provide security awareness training and workforce development to Montana businesses, students, and adults.
Separately, Minnesota State University Moorhead (MSUM) has issued security reminders to faculty, staff, and students to combat increasing cyberattacks. The university emphasized the importance of vigilance against phishing, the necessity of IT risk assessments prior to software purchases, and the risks of using unverified AI tools with personally identifiable information.
