Cybersecurity leaders adopt automated defense against AI threats
Cybersecurity leaders are facing increased pressure to adopt automated defense mechanisms due to the rapid evolution of AI-driven attacks. Hugo Lai, Chief Information Security Officer at Temple Health, noted that the traditional 30-day window for patching vulnerabilities has become obsolete following the emergence of frontier AI models capable of weaponizing vulnerabilities autonomously.
Lai explained that security teams must now decide how much authority to grant automated tools to act at machine speed. While automation allows for immediate patching of internet-facing assets, it carries the risk of unintended consequences, such as automated processes accidentally disabling revenue-generating applications. The shift toward immediate remediation is driven by the reality that vulnerabilities must be addressed as soon as they surface to defend against AI-enabled threats.
