Cybersecurity market shifts toward AI and hardware-based security

The global cybersecurity market, valued at $311 billion, is experiencing significant shifts driven by AI infrastructure and venture capital. While the top 20 market leaders—including Palo Alto Networks, Cisco, Fortinet, Microsoft, and CrowdStrike—control 68.3 percent of total technology sales, investment is increasingly flowing toward new entrants and AI-focused development.

In the second quarter of 2026, pre-IPO cybersecurity companies raised $2.87 billion across 140 deals. Although this represents a 26 percent decrease compared to the previous year, the volume remains slightly above the long-term quarterly average. Investors are currently prioritizing AI infrastructure, with companies like OpenAI and Anthropic attracting massive capital.

Amidst this market evolution, Amsterdam-based startup Fortaegis Technologies has raised $50 million to develop a hardware-based security architecture. The company utilizes the unique digital fingerprint inherent in silicon chips to generate random encryption keys. This method, which is built directly into the hardware rather than relying solely on software, is designed to be resistant to both AI-driven attacks and quantum computing. Fortaegis plans to begin commercial production of this technology next year, targeting applications in data centers, autonomous vehicles, satellites, and critical infrastructure.
