Cybersecurity preparedness gaps and new supply chain risk management tools in Japan

A recent survey by Softcreate reveals a significant gap in cybersecurity preparedness among Japanese companies. While 37.1% of surveyed organizations have experienced security incidents—most commonly client PC virus infections, followed by server/internal system breaches and ransomware—only 7.6% have established formal response procedures, role divisions, and recovery drills.

Key challenges identified by information systems departments include a lack of specialized expertise, insufficient human resources, and inadequate emergency response flows. Additionally, while interest in the upcoming SCS evaluation system is growing, there remains a notable disparity in maturity levels across different companies.

In response to evolving threats, Japan Comsync has launched the ‘Security Shield’ series, a service designed to manage security risks across entire supply chains. The service allows companies to continuously monitor and visualize vulnerabilities in their own assets as well as those of their business partners without requiring the installation of dedicated software on partner systems. The suite includes three tiers: Lite for basic diagnostics, a diagnostic service for detailed risk management, and a protection service for internet-facing assets like websites and VPNs.
