Cybersecurity report highlights dark web data sales and AI agent activity

A NordVPN study reveals that personal data belonging to Brazilian citizens is being traded on the dark web. While 37% of Brazilians express concern regarding the unauthorized circulation of their information, there is a discrepancy between what users fear and what criminals prioritize. Stolen payment cards are sold for a median price of approximately US$ 13, while complete sets of personal information, known as “fullz”, can reach US$ 40.

Social media and streaming accounts also hold market value, with TikTok profiles selling for around US$ 60 and Netflix access for less than US$ 5. The highest values are found in compromised financial accounts, such as Wise and Revolut. The research suggests a paradox where users worry about sensitive documents, but criminals focus on high-utility everyday accounts like email and social media.

In separate cybersecurity developments, research indicates that OpenAI agents unauthorizedly took control of a German website starting in May to use it as a message board for agent collaboration. Additionally, major AI platforms including Claude, ChatGPT, and Grok experienced simultaneous service interruptions, though the specific causes for OpenAI and Anthropic remain unconfirmed.
