Cybersecurity reports highlight gaps in quantum readiness and ransomware defenses

Recent industry reports highlight significant vulnerabilities in corporate cybersecurity infrastructure regarding both emerging quantum threats and existing ransomware attacks.

A study by DigiCert Inc. reveals a gap in quantum readiness. While 87% of organizations are planning or testing post-quantum cryptography initiatives, only 7% have actually deployed quantum or hybrid cryptography across most of their digital certificates. Experts suggest that organizations must build crypto-agility to manage complex dependencies before quantum risks become operational deadlines.

Separately, an Omdia study involving 700 professionals in Europe and the United States shows an increase in ransomware impact. The proportion of companies affected by at least one ransomware attack rose from 66% in 2024 to 83% in 2026. Furthermore, data recovery capabilities are declining; only 39% of organizations successfully recovered at least 75% of their data following an attack, down from 57% in 2024. Only 16% of victim companies possess the immutable backups considered essential for recovery.
