Cybersecurity resilience discussed at LATAM CISO Summit amid rising SME threats
Panama's National Authority for Government Innovation (AIG) participated in the LATAM CISO Summit 2026 to discuss regional cybersecurity resilience. Adolfo Fábrega, General Administrator of the AIG, shared Panama's progress in digital transformation and cybersecurity ecosystems, emphasizing the need for regional cooperation to address digital threats that transcend borders. The summit focused on topics including Artificial Intelligence in cybersecurity, cloud security, and the protection of critical infrastructure.
Concurrently, a global survey by Kaspersky highlights the increasing vulnerability of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The study reveals that 86% of SMEs experienced at least one cybersecurity incident in the past year. In Latin America, organizations reported an average of three different types of security incidents. The most frequent threats identified among SMEs include phishing (24%), external remote access (15%), and software vulnerability exploitation (13%).
