Cybersecurity roundup: FBI breach claims, North Korean malware, and EU social media rules

Several major cybersecurity developments have emerged this week. The FBI is investigating a potential breach of its FBIjobs recruitment website after the cybercriminal group Shiny Hunters claimed to have stolen personal data belonging to thousands of federal agents.

In a separate international campaign, the North Korean cyber actor group known as WaterPlum, or “Contagious Interview,” has reportedly infected at least 30,000 devices across more than 100 countries. The operation targets IT professionals to steal cryptocurrency, resulting in losses of approximately $10.7 million.

Regarding digital regulation, the European Commission has adopted the EU KIDS Act proposal. The rules aim to reshape social media access for minors by preventing children under 13 from using these platforms and establishing 15 as the minimum age for independent account creation. Users aged 13 to 15 may use parent-managed mini accounts with restricted social contacts and a daily limit of 60 minutes of screen time.
