Cybersecurity sector sees rise in Business Email Compromise attacks
Cybersecurity firm Stoïk reports a 60% increase in cyber incidents managed in September compared to the months preceding summer. This surge is largely driven by Business Email Compromise (BEC) attacks, which rose by 119% between May and September.
Experts note that while artificial intelligence has not necessarily created new types of threats, it has professionalized and lowered the cost of executing attacks. This allows malicious actors with less technical expertise to operate at a larger scale. Despite the increased frequency of incidents, the severity of individual attacks remains stable.
To mitigate these risks, specialists recommend traditional defense measures, including rapid technical patching, robust authentication, and regular employee training to recognize increasingly sophisticated phishing attempts.
