Cybersecurity shifts toward strategic resilience amid rising AI-driven threats
Cybersecurity is shifting from a defensive shield to a strategic priority focused on operational continuity and resilience. At the Industrial Cyber Summit Chile 2026, experts emphasized that organizations must move beyond mere regulatory compliance to strengthen prevention and response capabilities.
In Chile, the National Cybersecurity Agency reported that anticipatory measures successfully prevented attacks on 21 government entities, resulting in savings exceeding $1 billion for the state. Flavia Méndez, CEO of Cyber Summit, noted that investing in prevention is critical for protecting digital infrastructure and the national economy.
Globally, the threat landscape is evolving rapidly due to artificial intelligence. According to CrowdStrike’s Global Threat Report 2026, AI-powered attacks have increased by 89% year-over-year. AI has significantly compressed the time available for defense; the average breakout time—the interval between initial compromise and lateral movement—has dropped to 29 minutes.
The economic impact of these breaches is substantial. IBM estimates the average global cost of a data breach at $4.99 million, a figure that rises to $6 million when AI models are involved in the incident. Emerging threats include deepfakes for identity fraud, software supply chain compromises, and prompt injection attacks.
