Cybersecurity studies reveal gaps in organizational preparedness and rising attack rates

A study by FORT Cyber, conducted alongside Data Diggers and Promocrat, reveals that Romanian companies may be overestimating their readiness for cyberattacks. While over 80% of surveyed organizations utilize basic technical measures such as firewalls, antivirus software, multi-factor authentication, and backup solutions, technical implementation does not equate to operational readiness. Notably, 15% of organizations that implemented nearly all analyzed technical measures had never tested their incident response plans.

Complementing these findings, a global study by Kaspersky indicates that 86% of IT and security professionals reported at least one cyber incident within the last 12 months. Common threats include phishing, software vulnerabilities, ransomware, and AI-related exploits. The consequences of these attacks are significant, with 22% of respondents citing financial loss as a primary impact. Furthermore, 16% of companies reported permanent data loss, and 13% experienced irrecoverable destruction of company assets. Customer data remains the most frequent target, cited in 32% of responses, followed by sensitive internal information and employee authentication credentials.
