Cybersecurity threats in Lithuania rise through deceptive QR codes and fake broadcasts
Cybercriminals are increasingly using deceptive tactics to trick users by disguising malicious activities as routine internet actions. According to data from Tele2, the cybersecurity firm Interneto apsauga blocked over 107 million cyber threats in July.
One prevalent method involves the use of QR codes. Scammers may present a QR code on a computer screen, claiming it is necessary to verify the user is not a robot or to play a video. Scanning the code with a mobile device can redirect the user to unsafe websites containing malicious content.
Another common tactic involves fake websites offering free sports broadcasts. These platforms mimic legitimate services to lure users into clicking links that lead to fraudulent schemes. Donato Drakickas, a product manager at Tele2, warns that these initial steps often appear harmless, making it difficult for users to recognize the danger.
