Cybersecurity threats intensify in Baden-Württemberg
The cybersecurity threat landscape intensified in 2025, according to the Cybersicherheitsagentur Baden-Württemberg (CSBW). The agency reported a significant rise in cybercrime activities, with municipalities and universities being primary targets.
Data from the CSBW indicates substantial increases in specific types of attacks: phishing attempts rose by 320 percent, password compromises by 230 percent, and fraudulent online shops by 1,230 percent. CSBW President Nicole Matthöfer emphasized the urgent need to intensify digital defense efforts.
Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Manuel Hagel stated that cybersecurity must be a core component of security policy to protect critical infrastructure, authorities, the economy, and society. The CSBW's monitoring efforts helped prevent potential damages totaling approximately 24 million euros.
