Cybersecurity threats involving casino-themed phishing and SEO spam

Cybersecurity experts are warning of rising trends in gambling-related digital attacks, including sophisticated phishing scams and SEO spam.

Phishing campaigns are increasingly targeting online casino players by impersonating legitimate platforms like Spinhub. These fraudulent emails often use urgency or fake bonuses, such as unexpected free spins or no-deposit offers, to trick users into revealing login credentials. Key indicators of these scams include suspicious sender addresses from public domains or misspelled subdomains, as well as poor grammar and spelling.

Separately, attackers are utilizing SEO spam to inject unauthorized gambling content into legitimate websites. By exploiting compromised credentials or outdated plugins, spammers leverage the established reputation and search visibility of unsuspecting sites to promote gambling services. Research from Sucuri indicated that nearly one in five websites identified with SEO spam in 2024 were affected by gambling-related content.
