Cybersecurity threats rise for Spanish businesses and elderly populations in Mexico

Cybersecurity challenges are intensifying across different demographics and regions. In Spain, organizations are facing a critical digital landscape with an average of over two thousand cyberattacks per week per organization. The rise of ransomware and the use of artificial intelligence by criminals to automate offensives have rendered traditional firewalls obsolete. Experts suggest that the disappearance of the traditional office perimeter requires a shift toward ‘Zero Trust’ architectures and the use of Cloud Access Security Brokers (CASB) to protect remote work and cloud-based applications.

In Mexico, the rapid digitalization of banking and economic services is creating significant vulnerabilities for senior citizens. Representing approximately 15 percent of the population, older adults are increasingly susceptible to financial fraud and digital exclusion. Experts note that as banks prioritize efficiency by reducing in-person services, this demographic faces hostile digital interfaces and an information asymmetry that makes them prime targets for AI-driven scams.
