Cybersecurity training initiatives expand in Chile

Cybersecurity initiatives are expanding in Chile through specialized training programs focused on industrial systems and artificial intelligence.

The SANS Institute will host its first in-person course in Chile from September 28 to October 3 in Santiago. Hosted by Entel Digital, the program focuses on Industrial Control Systems (ICS) security and will be led by instructor Monta Elkins. This training comes as Entel Digital reports that 80% of vulnerabilities detected in internal ICS networks were classified as critical, noting increased activity from advanced persistent threat groups targeting the country's critical infrastructure.

Additionally, Microsoft conducted a cybersecurity training session for 800 students at the Escuela Militar del Libertador Bernardo O’Higgins. Led by Jimena Mora Corredor from Microsoft’s Digital Crimes Unit (DCU), the session addressed how artificial intelligence is transforming cybercrime, specifically through enhanced phishing and identity theft. The DCU has identified over 7,700 cyberattack victims in Chile, highlighting the growing sophistication of digital threats.
