Cybersecurity trends show rise in high-value digital fraud
Recent reports highlight a shift in the cybersecurity landscape across the European Union and Italy. The ENISA 2026 Threat Landscape report, based on over 8,000 incidents from 2025, reveals that ideological attacks—primarily DDoS campaigns linked to geopolitical conflicts—account for 57.3% of recorded events. However, analysts note these are often “noise” that causes only temporary service disruptions.
In contrast, financial cybercrime is becoming increasingly sophisticated and lucrative. Data from the Fabi report on Italian digital fraud shows that while the total number of incidents remained stable between 2024 and 2025, the total amount stolen rose by 17.4% to a record 269 million euros. Over the four-year period from 2022 to 2025, total losses in Italy exceeded 828 million euros, demonstrating that criminals are prioritizing higher-quality, more effective attacks over sheer volume.
