Cybersecurity warning regarding shoulder surfing risks

Shoulder surfing is a technique used to steal confidential data, such as PINs and passwords, by simply observing a person as they enter information. This method does not require advanced cyber tools or social engineering, but rather relies on the visual observation of keyboard patterns or screen displays.

Risks are particularly high in public spaces when users unlock phones, log into banking applications, or enter codes at ATMs and building entrances. Observers may even watch from unusual vantage points, such as through shop window reflections or from different floors.

To mitigate these risks, users are advised to shield their keyboards with a hand while typing and to utilize biometric authentication, such as fingerprint readers or facial recognition, to reduce the need for manual code entry.
