Cybersecurity warnings issued for social media privacy and Macro viruses

Users are being advised to exercise caution regarding personal data privacy on social media platforms like Zalo and Facebook. Experts recommend limiting the public visibility of sensitive information, such as birthdays, phone numbers, and specific home addresses, to prevent unauthorized access. Privacy settings on these platforms should be adjusted to restrict personal details to specific groups rather than the general public.

In a separate cybersecurity warning, the Dong Thap Provincial Police reported an increase in Macro viruses infecting computers within businesses and government agencies. These malicious scripts are often embedded in Microsoft Office files, such as Word or Excel, and can be distributed via Zalo, email, or USB drives.

Authorities warn that clicking ‘Enable Content’ or ‘Enable Macros’ on files from unknown sources can trigger the malware, leading to data theft, file corruption, or ransomware attacks where data is encrypted for extortion.
