Cybersecurity warnings issued regarding phishing and fraudulent links

Cybersecurity experts are warning consumers about the rise of phishing and fraudulent links during major discount campaigns like Cyber Wow. Fraudsters often use a sense of urgency, such as “last minutes” or “confirm now,” to trick users into clicking malicious links that mimic legitimate retailers, banks, or social media platforms.

To avoid falling victim to these scams, users should verify that promotions appear on recognized official channels and scrutinize web addresses and senders. If a user accidentally clicks a fraudulent link, experts recommend immediately closing the tab, disconnecting from the internet to prevent malware communication, and performing a full antivirus scan.

Following a potential breach, it is advised to change passwords using a secure, separate device and to enable two-step verification for sensitive accounts like online banking and primary email addresses.
