Cyberstalking emerges as most prevalent digital crime in Italy
An investigation by Eurispes released in May 2026 highlights the rising prevalence of digital crimes in Italy. Cyberstalking has emerged as the most widespread form of digital victimization, with 28.2% of digital users reporting at least one incident.
Other significant digital offenses include privacy violations, reported by 19.7% of the population, and attempted grooming through false identities, affecting 17.6%.
Research from the University of Turin on university students also indicates higher victimization rates than previously documented in international literature. These experiences are linked to significant increases in anxiety and depressive symptoms, particularly among individuals who have previously experienced offline victimization.
